The supervision tools also allow parents to control who can tag their teen in posts and manage or approve certain privacy and sensitive-content settings. 2 Min Read Meta is rolling out parental supervision tools on Threads in Asia Pacific, giving parents greater visibility into their teenagers’ activity and new controls over how they use the platform, as governments around the world tighten rules aimed at protecting children online. Starting this week, parents and guardians will be able to use Meta’s Family Center to see how much time their teen spends on Threads, set daily usage limits and restrict access during selected hours and days. The move comes amid growing regulatory scrutiny of social media platforms over children’s online safety.
Late last year, Australia became the first country to require major social media platforms to prevent children under 16 from having accounts in December 2025. The UK has also announced plans to bar under-16s from certain social media platforms from spring 2027, while the European Commission this week proposed EU-wide rules that would bar children under 13 from social media and require parental controls for 13- and 14-year-olds. Against this backdrop, Meta said its new Threads controls build on the platform’s Teen Accounts, which automatically provide protections such as private accounts and restrictions on the content teens can see.
A key new measure allows parents to decide whether teens under 16 can change certain Teen Account settings to make them less restrictive. Parents can also adjust Threads’ sleep mode, which can limit or block access during selected hours. By default, notifications are muted and auto-replies are enabled between 10 pm and 7 am.
